1 Dough 5 Ways (CCC Edition)
Learn how to turn my classic chocolate chip cookie recipe into 5 different cookies, all with one base dough!
I love a recipe that is easily adaptable! If you have a copy of my second cookbook, Preppy Kitchen Super Easy, you are already well aware of how to take a base recipe and mix it up to change the flavor or use what you have on hand. I always want cooking and baking to be an expression of your taste and love for the people you are feeding. Being able to adjust or vary a recipe is a great way to customize a dish to fit your needs, preferences, and purpose.
Today’s cookie recipe is very much in that spirit, and the start of an ongoing series here on Everyday Baking, all about taking one base recipe and easily adapting it to create other flavors. We are taking one brown sugar cookie dough—the base of a classic chocolate chip cookie—and adapting it with the mix-ins we add to create 5 different cookie flavors!
Some are as simple as changing the chunky bits you add in from chocolate chips to nuts or fruit. Others have little flavorings mixed in, like cocoa powder or espresso, to adjust the dough's flavor. But at the heart, you need one recipe for the dough, and from there, you can use various mix-in combinations to make each cookie unique.
